Cummings Applauds Passage of Bipartisan FOIA Reform Legislation in the Senate

Washington, DC (March 15, 2016)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement applauding passage of the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) reform legislation in the Senate:

"FOIA reform is long overdue. In January, the House unanimously passed the FOIA reform bill I introduced with Representative Issa, and the Senate has now taken action. In the last Congress, Speaker Boehner held up FOIA reform and stopped it in its tracks. I call on Speaker Ryan not to repeat the mistakes of his predecessor and bring the Senate bill to the floor as soon as possible. There would be no better way to celebrate Sunshine Week than to send FOIA reform legislation to the President's desk."
