Cummings Issues Statement on Continuing Resolution

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement regarding the House of Representatives' passage of a continuing resolution that delays the Affordable Care Act by one year and repeals the Medical Device Tax:

"Today, by failing to perform their most basic duty, Republicans in the Congress failed the American people. They voted to shut down the government, all because of their obsession with taking away health insurance for millions of people and giving back to insurance companies the power to decide who gets what care. In their blind pursuit of ideology over our nation's best interests, Republicans are hurting our economy, threatening job creation, and leaving families with less security and stability. As a result of these irresponsible actions, federal employees – who have already endured relentless attacks on their salary and benefits – will suffer yet again through no fault of their own, and critical services on which so many American families rely will come to a grinding halt."
