Cummings Issues Statement on OSC Report

Recommending that President Trump Discipline

Kellyanne Conway for Hatch Act Violations

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 6, 2018)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to a new report issued by the Office of the Special Counsel recommending that President Donald Trump discipline Kellyanne Conway, Senior Counselor to the President, for two separate Hatch Act violations:

"This is not the first time that an independent government agency has recommended that the White House discipline Kellyanne Conway for breaking the law. Ms. Conway has received multiple trainings and warnings, yet she still refuses to follow basic ethics rules. The President must take swift and serious disciplinary action against Ms. Conway. Anything else sets a terrible example."

On March 9, 2017, the Office of Government Ethics responded to a letter from Ranking Member Cummings and then-Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz, explaining that on February 13, 2017, the Office recommended that the White House take disciplinary action against Ms. Conway for statements she made on national television directly promoting and endorsing President Trump's daughter's private business.
