Cummings Responds to DHS IG Report on Secret Service

Washington, DC (Sept. 30, 2015) – Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to a DHS Inspector General report, which found that Secret Service employees obtained and leaked information about Chairman Chaffetz:

"Chairman Chaffetz and I have worked together to help restore the Secret Service to its standing as the most elite protective agency in the world. Today's findings by the Inspector General go directly against this goal and are completely and utterly unacceptable and indefensible. I believe the Secret Service owes Chairman Chaffetz an immediate apology and must implement the strictest of disciplinary measures as soon as possible. Although the Inspector General identified no evidence of political motivation or influence, I believe in fundamental fairness, and those who are unwilling or unable to meet the highest of ethical standards should not be a part of the Secret Service."
