Cummings Statement on President Trump’s FY18 Budget

Washington, D.C. (May 22, 2017)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s FY2018 Budget:

“Despite candidate Trump’s many promises, this budget would do nothing to make America great again.  Instead, it would take billions of dollars away from working families and give it to defense contractors, millionaires, and billionaires.

“This budget would cut Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF—taking essential services away from millions of Americans; it would continue the Trump Administration’s assault on our environment by cutting funding for our efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay; and it is an attempt to use middle class federal employees as a piggy bank to make room for tax cuts for the wealthy.

“The President promised to help America’s forgotten men and women, but his budget—like TrumpCare—is nothing more than the wish list of conservative think tanks and lobbyists.”
