Cummings to Testify Before Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs About the Challenges Facing the U.S. Postal Service

Washington, DC —On Wednesday, February 13, 2013, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, will testify before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs about the challenges facing the U.S. Postal Service.

Last week, the U.S. Postal Service announced its intention to stop Saturday  mail delivery in August.  On February 8, the Postal Service announced it lost $1.3 billion during the first quarter of fiscal year 2013.  Cummings introduced H.R. 2967, the Innovate to Deliver Act, during the last Congress to enhance the long-term profitability of the Postal Service through expanded innovation, operational flexibility, workforce realignment, and regulatory relief.
