*** Media Advisory ***
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Tri-Caucus and Oversight Democrats will hold a press conference tomorrow, May 8 at 11:45 a.m. E.T., on the Trump Administration’s rushed decision to add an untested new question on citizenship despite concerns raised by the Census Bureau itself and numerous stakeholders.
House Democrats have sent multiple letters to the Department of Commerce, the Census Bureau and the Department of Justice requesting documents relating to the Census Bureau’s concerns about including the citizenship question, but have received no documents and no replies to the request. Oversight Democrats sent a follow up letter to Chairman Trey Gowdy requesting he issue a subpoena for the documents. To date, Gowdy has refused Democrats’ request.
The Oversight Committee will hold a hearing on the addition of the citizenship question at 1 p.m. on after repeated calls from Ranking Member Cummings and other Members.
