Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History month, an opportunity to celebrate the female Members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

Women’s History Month: Spotlight on Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence

Who inspires Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence:

Professionally, the woman who inspires me the most is Shirley Chisolm.  As the first black woman elected to the United States Congress, she spoke truth to power and her actions matched her words. Her courage, convictions and self-confidence inspire me daily.

However, my inspiration to my work in public service is greatly attributed to my grandmother.  She was a selfless, compassionate caregiver in every sense of the word.  Her foundation in life was her love for God and her family and she was my first exposure to what unconditional love truly looked like. She lead by example and I will forever be inspired and encouraged by the leadership and love of my grandmother.”
